Michael Laxy, PhD

Dr. Laxy is head of the working group ‘Economics and Management of Diabetes’ at the Institute of Health Economics and Health Care Management at the Helmholtz Zentrum München. For 2017/2018 he is awarded the prestigious Harkness Fellowship for Health Care Policy of the Commonwealth Fund/B. Braun Stiftung.

His research interests are economic evaluations of prevention and treatment strategies in the field of metabolic diseases and the analysis of health policies targeting patient health behavior and quality of care. He is a co-investigator of the population-based KORA research platform and held visiting research positions at the University of Cambridge and the University of Wisconsin-Madison. Laxy received his doctorate in Medical Research (Public Health & Epidemiology) from the Ludwig Maximilians University München. His thesis was awarded with the Helmholtz Graduate Award 2016. He also holds a Master’s degree in Public Health and a Master’s degree in in Clinical and Genetic Epidemiology from the Maximilians University München.

In his current Harkness Fellowship project Dr. Laxy works with partners from the CDC - Division of Diabetes Translation on analyzing the cost-effectiveness of current US strategies for diabetes prevention.
