Biography

Samrawit Yisahak is a doctoral candidate in Nutrition and Health Sciences at Emory University. She has a Bachelor of Science in Nutritional Sciences with a minor in Global Health from Cornell University.

Samrawit's primary research interest is in the epidemiology and pathophysiology of diabetes in globally understudied populations, particularly in Africa and the Caribbean. As a Fogarty Global Health Fellow, she collaborated with endocrinologists at the largest general public hospital in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia on clinical research projects and grant writing. Her dissertation explores the metabolic health of the United States black population by place of birth, assessing the role of anthropometric and dietary risk factors. Samrawit also contributed to the 7th edition of the International Diabetes Federation's diabetes atlas.
