Biography


Lisa Staimez, MPH, PhD, is assistant professor at Emory University’s Rollins School of Public Health, Department of Global Health.  With strong interests in the prevention of chronic diseases globally, her doctoral work examined the pathophysiology of diabetes and the risk factors associated with diabetes development in Asian Indians. Prior to joining Emory, Dr. Staimez managed and evaluated programs at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention in the Center for Chronic Disease Prevention and Health Promotion, including a large lifestyle intervention program to prevent cardiovascular disease in low-income women.  Coupled to research on microcredit lending and the nutritional status of children under 5 years in Guatemala and El Salvador, her work reflects an integration of nutrition, biological sciences, and epidemiology across a widening global context.
