Biography
Dr. Sathish Thirunavukkarasu is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Family and Preventive Medicine at Emory University School of Medicine in Atlanta. He is also a core faculty member at the Emory Global Diabetes Research Center, located at the Rollins School of Public Health. Dr. Thirunavukkarasu earned his Medical Degree, a Diploma in Family Medicine, and a Master's Degree in Public Health in India before obtaining a PhD in Epidemiology from the University of Melbourne in Australia. He completed two years of post-doctoral training at Nanyang Technological University in Singapore, followed by a diabetes fellowship at Imperial College London, and three additional years of post-doctoral training at McMaster University in Canada.
With over a decade of expertise in clinical science, epidemiology, statistics, health economics, and implementation science, Dr. Thirunavukkarasu's primary research focuses on the "Precision Prevention of Type 2 Diabetes" through lifestyle interventions. He also works on translating research evidence into clinical and public health practice. Additionally, Dr. Thirunavukkarasu is actively involved in researching COVID-19 and its association with new-onset diabetes. He is a key collaborator in prominent global health initiatives such as the GBD Research Network and the NCD-RisC collaboration.
Dr. Thirunavukkarasu's academic contributions include serving on the editorial boards of 17 esteemed journals. His scholarly impact is underscored by his inclusion among the top 3% of scientists in the United States and globally across all disciplines. As of May 2024, he has authored over 130 scientific articles, receiving nearly 45,500 citations with an h-index of 41. His work has been published in prestigious journals such as Nature Reviews Endocrinology, The Lancet Diabetes and Endocrinology, The Lancet Global Health, Eclinical Medicine, Annual Review of Public Health, and Diabetes Care.
