Abdulraouf Abbas

Biography

Abdulraouf Abbas is a PhD student in the lab of Dr. James Dahlman at Emory School of Medicine, where he is developing lipid nanoparticle systems for targeted mRNA delivery to the pancreas and other tissues. His work aims to create a safe, effective, and scalable delivery platform that could enable future therapies to restore insulin-producing cells or induce immune tolerance to prevent diabetes. He is a recipient of Georgia Tech's President’s Fellowship Award and is a Shankar Fellow. Supported by the EGDRC, Abdul published his paper titled “Gastrointestinal delivery of mRNA lipid nanoparticles selectively targets the pancreas,” a result of a collaboration he led between Georgia Tech and Emory School of Medicine.

Previously, Abdul earned his M.Sc. in Microbiology & Molecular Genetics from Michigan State University. He held research roles in biotech startups, including Senior Research Associate at Elicio Therapeutics in Boston, where he advanced lymph node–targeted cancer vaccines now in Phase 2 clinical trials for pancreatic cancer. He joined the early team at Kate Therapeutics as a Scientist in San Diego, contributing to the development of AAV gene therapies for muscle diseases prior to the company’s $1.1 billion acquisition by Novartis.
